We’re proud to announce the launch of #NoHarmware, our new campaign in partnership with Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand calling for urgent action to make our digital spaces safer.

The internet has transformed how we connect, learn, and share — but without proper regulation, it has also created environments where harm can spread unchecked. Online bullying, racism, sexism, doxxing, scams, deepfakes, revenge porn, and even livestreamed violence have become far too common. These harms don’t just stay online; they spill into our communities, workplaces, and schools.

That’s why we’ve launched #NoHarmware. At its heart, the campaign highlights a critical design flaw in the way platforms operate: they are built to maximise engagement, even when that means amplifying harmful content. We believe Aotearoa New Zealand has an opportunity to fix this by introducing sensible regulation that puts people’s wellbeing first.

Our call is simple:

  • Transparency and accountability from tech companies about how their systems work.

  • A duty of care to ensure products are safe by design.

  • Independent oversight and penalties for non-compliance.

  • Regulation developed in partnership with Māori, in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Other countries (including Australia, the UK, and the EU) have already have online safety laws in place. It’s time for New Zealand to catch up.

Explore the campaign and take action today. You can contact your MP, write to Minister Erica Stanford, or share information with your community. Together, we can transform online platforms into safe, inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive.
