Te Tiriti o Waitangi Workshops

We believe that belonging and inclusion in Aotearoa must be built on an acknowledgement and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tino rangatiratanga.

As part of our kaupapa, we deliver educational and strategic workshops to groups looking to strengthen Tiriti understanding and commitment within their workplace or community.

Our kaimahi are experienced in delivering Te Tiriti o Waitangi workshops across the country. Years of facilitation experience offer groups an engaging educational and strategic experience in engaging with material that some can find daunting. We pride ourselves on creating a safe and reciprocal space for participants to feel comfortable as they undertake their journey with Te Tiriti.

Our workshops focus on the past (historical context), present (treaty relations today), and future (how to be a strong ally) of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We work with groups to create a simple and effective action plan to guide them on their path forward with Te Tiriti.

We offer a variety of workshops, ranging from one-off sessions to long-term partnerships. All of the workshops that we deliver are tailored to the needs and nuances of the group that is interested. Look through the options below to find out more about our services.

One-day workshop

The full-day workshop is an expanded version of the half-day session. We recommend this option to groups as it allows more time for discussion and collaboration.

This session allows for a more nuanced understanding of Te Tiriti. Additional topics include the treaty breaches, Matike Mai Aotearoa, The Waitangi Tribunal, and how the treaty relates to diversity and inclusion in the future.
Long-term partnerships

We facilitate long-term partnerships with organisations seeking to thoroughly implement a strategy for engaging with and committing to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

In this partnership, we focus on the organisation’s strategic direction through education and application.

We work with organisations to develop and provide a framework for a greater understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, using a te ao Māori approach at organisational and Interest Group levels.

This includes reviewing the current strategic plan and developing policies that embed a number of activities, processes, and initiatives within the organisation through a te ao Māori approach. It also includes developing relationships with Iwi, Hapū, and Marae.

Additionally, we assist organisations in developing a legacy strategy built on a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi that confidently stretches into the future.

Through our long-term programme, we help organisations build strong cultural knowledge and commitment to Te Tiriti through a rōpū (group) system which produces real change outside of the training sessions.

We currently hold long-term Te Tiriti partnerships with YWCA NZ and English Language Partners.

These programmes often run for one year, but like all of our services, they are tailor-made to best suit an organisation’s current needs and requirements.

The team at Inclusive Aotearoa Collective Tāhono (IACT) bring years of experience
and wisdom to their Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te ao Māori training. They know how to
create comprehensive and authentic frameworks and walk alongside organisations on
their journey, going at the pace of everyone on the team.

YWCA Tāmaki Makaurau, as a tangata Tiriti organisation, are currently undertaking Te
Tiriti o Waitangi and Te ao Māori training with a Kaupapa Māori approach to create a
greater understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti. Gareth Jones and Anjum Rahman
have run informative, heartfelt wonderful workshops with us that uphold the mana of
everyone in the room. We thoroughly recommend them.
