Understanding the Uyghur Struggle
Part two of “Connected Oppressors, Interwoven Struggles” now available.
Recorded April 29, 2025
This is the follow-up session to our previous webinar “Connected Oppressors, Interwoven Struggles,” exploring anti-imperialist, international perspectives that rejects both US and Chinese imperialism, along with all forms of colonialism.
In this discussion, we turn our attention to the struggle of the Uyghur people and the realities they face both inside and outside of China. Our main speaker, Rizwangul NurMuhammad—a PhD student researching Uyghur identity whose own family members are among those incarcerated in East Turkestan (also known as “Xinjiang”)—shares a powerful and deeply personal presentation.
Although the video file for this kōrero was unfortunately lost, we are grateful to share the full audio recording of this rich and important dialogue. Please note that a slideshow accompanying Rizwangul’s presentation begins at 14:27 in the recording.
With gratitude to: Rizwangul NurMuhammad, Tina Ngata, and our partners andIsland, Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga, Indigenous Pacific Uprising, Koekoeā, People Against All Imperialisms, and Uyghur Solidarity Aotearoa.
