Join us for Rebuilding Trust: Media Harm in Aotearoa

Tāhono Media and the Broadcasting Standards Authority present a participatory webinar focused on the nuances and implications of media harm and potential steps we can take to build belonging in media representation in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

The discussion is centred on the Broadcasting Standards Authority’s report Freedom of Expression and Harms Impacting Diverse Communities from earlier this year. The report finds that only a minority of participants feel New Zealand has the right balance between freedom of expression and potential harm – shedding light on the alienation and media avoidance experienced by Aotearoa’s diverse communities.

What to Expect:

  • Scene-setting: Learn how harmful and inauthentic media representation impacts diverse communities and threatens belonging in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
  • Potential solutions: We will discuss ways communities and media organisations can reduce media harm and improve authentic media representation.
  • Participation: We strongly encourage participants to bring questions and perspectives to help shape the kōrero.
